The Connecticut Democracy Center Convenes the First Kid Governors’ Summit

Last Friday, May 22nd, The Connecticut Democracy Center at Connecticut’s Old State House convened the first ever Kid Governors’ Summit, bringing together our nation’s three Kid Governors.

Connecticut’s Kid Governor Myra, New Hampshire’s Kid Governor Suzy, and Oregon’s Kid Governor Raaga had the chance to meet each other virtually. They explained their platforms, talked about how they are fulfilling their goals, shared their experiences serving as Kid Governor, and asked questions of each other.

Brightening the Lives of Local Children: NHKG Suzy Collects Summer Fun for Children in Need

New Hampshire’s Kid Governor Suzy Brand kicked off the summer by holding a Summer Fun Toy Drive to collect items for children in need in Concord, New Hampshire. The drive aims to collect outdoor items that children can play with outside or in small areas.


2020 ORKG Raaga Supports Local Health Care Workers

Oregon’s Kid Governor Raaga Mandala has been busy working on her platform and supporting her local health care workers during the COVID-19 outbreak. On April 29th, Raaga held a fundraiser to be able to provide lunch to health care workers at Providence St. Vincent Hospital on May 20th. Through this fundraiser, Raaga was able to raise $650!

 

 


Standing Up for Animals in Need: CTKG Myra Shares Her Educational Video Series

Throughout the month of May, Connecticut’s Kid Governor Myra Stanfield celebrated National Pet Month by releasing a series of educational videos on companion animals and shelters.

The first point of CTKG Myra’s Standing Up for Animals in Need platform is to inform and educate kids about companion animals in need and how they can help these animals. To achieve this, Myra interviewed Ashley Marshall from the Connecticut Humane Society for a four-part educational video series.


Keeping Spirits High: Outdoor Chalk-Art Challenge with NHKG Suzy

New Hampshire’s Kid Governor Suzy Brand has been challenging students to get outdoors during quarantine. In her latest blog post, Suzy challenges readers to get outside and to create positive chalk-art on their sidewalks or drive ways. Read her blog HERE.


Advocating for Animals: CTKG Myra Virtually Meets with U.S. Senator Blumenthal

On May 11th, 2020 Connecticut’s Kid Governor Myra Stanfield participated in a virtual meeting with United States Senator Richard Blumenthal (CT-D) and other animal advocates from across Connecticut. The group discussed animal welfare during the COVID-19 pandemic and Myra had the opportunity to speak about her Standing Up for Animals in Need platform.
