2019 Connecticut’s Kid Governor Ella Releases Her Guide to Starting a
Pride-Hope-Love Club

2019 Connecticut’s Kid Governor Ella Briggs spent her term in office working on spreading pride, hope, and love across the state of Connecticut. She spread hope by working with Connecticut’s Department of Children and Families on a poster contest to promote CT Family Day and the adoption of homeless LGBTQ+ youth. She spread love by creating a webinar for educators on LGBTQ+ safety. To close out her term, Ella spread pride with the release of her Guide to Start a Pride-Hope-Love Club in Your Elementary School.

2019 New Hampshire’s Kid Governor Lola Speaks Up for Animals!

During her term, 2019 New Hampshire’s Kid Governor Lola Giannelli worked on ending Animal Cruelty in the State of New Hampshire. Over the fall, she spoke at Nashua City Hall about her support for Legislative Service Request (LSR) 2020-2085, which would prohibit the sale of cats, dogs, and rabbits in retail stores. This bill is currently in committee so stay tuned to see what happens next!

Did you know: 2017 Connecticut’s Kid Governor Jessica Brocksom worked on a platform of Helping Animals, Those Without a Voice and acted as an advocate for two bills that were passed into law about animals. One of these laws requires that Connecticut animal shelters must be registered an inspected.

2019 ORKG Erikka learns about County Government First Hand

While the Kid Governor® focuses on state government, many of our students get the opportunity to learn about federal and local government as well. 2019 Oregon’s Kid Governor Erikka Baldwin was invited to the Lane County Commissioners meeting last year when they heard public testimony on whether or not the county should put on the county ballot a measure to ban aerial spraying in forests and agricultural lands.

Kid Governor® is a national award-winning statewide civics program created by The Connecticut Democracy Center (CTDC). Kid Governor is presented in partnership with the National Association of Secretaries of State and the Connecticut Council for the Social Studies.
